SILICON MECHANICS ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF MODULAR BLADE SERVER PRODUCT
Bladeform 5100 Series Blade Server will offer
powerful and flexible blade configurations
BOTHELL, WA – March 19, 2008 – Silicon Mechanics, Inc., a leading provider of rackmount servers, storage, and high-performance computing solutions, today announced the release of its Bladeform 5100 Series blade server platform, based on the Intel® Modular Server. The Bladeform 5100 Series is an integrated, modular system combining compute modules, virtualized storage, networking, and advanced management functions in a single enclosure. Features of the Bladeform 5100 Series platform include:
- Up to 6 Compute Modules
- Up to 2 Storage Control Modules with RAID 6 support
- Up to 2 Ethernet Switch Modules
- Up to 4 hot-swap 1000W Power Supply Modules
- Up to 14 hot-swap 2.5" SAS drives
- A Management Module with easy-to-use management GUI
Each 5110 Server Blade features 2 Quad-Core or Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® processors, and 8 Fully Buffered DIMM sockets. The compute modules are diskless, and make use of the enclosure's SAN. The SAN physically separates the storage from the servers and manages the Storage Drive Bay, allowing for the creation of storage pools and virtual drives. Users can allot only the amount of storage that is needed per server. The integrated Ethernet Switch Module provides end-to-end management and allows for fewer cables and boxes.
Silicon Mechanics expects customers to use the Bladeform 5100 Series blade server platform at remote sites, for small virtualized deployments, or for special compute cluster needs requiring 2–6 compute blade resources.
