SILICON MECHANICS ANNOUNCES NEW VIRTUALIZATION PRODUCTS

Virtualization products will enable Silicon Mechanics customers to meet sustainabiilty, space, resource efficiency goals.


BOTHELL, WA — April 7, 2008 — Silicon Mechanics, Inc., a leading provider of rackmount servers, storage, and high-performance computing solutions, has announced the launch of a line of Virtualization solutions, products designed to serve the growing demand for servers that are substantially more efficient in terms of space, energy and resource utilization. The initial product offerings in this category are based on Intel® Xeon® platforms, and deploy VMware® Infrastructure for the virtual server creation and management.

The new products from Silicon Mechanics are:

Rackform iServ R450-VE. The Rackform iServ R450-VE MP Virtualization Server features 4 Intel Xeon processors 7300 or 7200 series with 1066-MHz System Bus and Intel Virtualization Technology. The iServ R450-VE supports up to 32 Fully Buffered DIMMs, integrated dual or quad Gigabit Ethernet ports, 8 hot-swap 2.5" SAS drive bays, redundant power supply, and 7 PCIe slots.

Rackform iServ R242-VE. The Rackform iServ R242-VE Dual Xeon Virtualization Server features 2 Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5000 Sequence processors with 1333-MHz System Bus, Hyper-Threading, and EM64T 64-Bit Extension support. The iServ R242-VE supports up to 8 Fully Buffered DIMMs, 2 integrated Gigabit Ethernet adapters, 6 hot-swap SAS drive bays, 6 expansion slots, and Low-Profile CD. With Intel Virtualization Technology and multiple server management options, this versatile Dual Xeon Virtualization Server is the choice for the most demanding enterprise-critical functions.

Rackform iServ R241-VE. The Rackform iServ R241-VE 1U Redundant Power Virtualization Server features 2 Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300 Series processors with 1333-MHz System Bus. Supporting 8 2.5" SAS hard drives, 8 Fully Buffered DIMMs, 2 integrated Gigabit Ethernet adapters, 2 PCIe expansion slots, and multiple server management options, this Redundant Power Virtualization Server is an ideal fit for compute-intensive, critical functions.
